Kasambara Discharged
Blantyre Adventist Hospital (BAH) has discharged former Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Raph Kasambara who is on remand for alleged conspiracy to commit a crime in the attempted murder of Paul Mphwiyo.
BAH sister-in-charge, Magret Takomana, confirmed Kasambara’s discharge.
She said he was discharged at around 9am on Thursday, but left the hospital at night.
Commissioner of Prisons Kennedy Nkhoma said Kasambara is being remanded at Chichiri Prison, but he refused to disclose the time the former minister was taken back to the prison.
“All I can say is that he is being remanded at Chichiri Prison,” he said.
However, a visit by Nation on Sunday to Chichiri Prision on Friday heard from an officer who asked for anonymity that Kasambara was taken to Zomba Maximum Security Prison the night he was discharged.
In an e-mailed response to a questionnaire, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mary Kachale said her office was not aware of the development.
“We are not aware of this information. We are hearing it from you,” was all that Kachale could say on Friday.
